Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001)

The life of Amelie and she affects those around her.

Rating: 10/10

The Good:

-everything

- they focused on little things that matter in my opinion, stuff like how we all collected some pebbles in our pockets when we were little, or seeing a cloud in the shape of some animal...a lot of stuff that we don't pay attention to when we grow up or simply forget.

-it's whimsical, cozy and the good kind of bizarre.

The Bad:

-even thought most of it has several kid-like stuff that we may relate to, it's still more of an adult film for the child in us.

-this film is not for everyone, you either love it or hate it.

Монгол / Mongol (2007)

A film about the life of Genghis Kahn growing up.

Rating: 7.6/10

The Good:

-I personally like how most of this was from his point of view so if anyone thought he may have been evil or whatever here it is obvious why he had done what there was to do. "Kill or be Killed" Even the fight scenes where he might be struck and you would see it with the camera how eveything started to blur and wobble.
-Even though the main actor was not Mongolian, I believe that all the actors were brilliant choices.
-Usually a film portraying someone who was a ruler tend to appear as some heartless snob or only showing us their military actions, but here you could see him as a child, husband and a father.
-Thoat-singing= points

The Sucketh:

-Ok so there may have been plenty of historically inaccurate things here...but not eveything has been recorded of him and things like their emotions as well)
-Personnaly I was dissapointed in several scenes where it would just cut off and jump ahead a few years. For example, even how he got himself an army..it just showed him saying his plans and then all of a sudden he's got all these men behind...they could have at least shown how he persuades one guy to join him.
So apperantly this is coming out in America..I wonder if it shall be subbed or dubbed..either way I think the trailer is nicely done, let's watch it:

Ping Pong (2002)

Two friends play ping pong but the one who is better at it doesn't exactly enjoy it, while the one who strives to make it a big part of his life cannot accept that.

Rating: 8.8/10

The Good:

-Nice soundtrack, the music does play a big part in films.
-Unlike some sport films this one focuses a lot of the personal problems of the player, their ups and downs in a way that we may relate to. They focused a lot of the friendship of the characters than just the sport and how they are affected by it.
-Finally a sport that is usually ignored or thought of not as a sport at all...(except "Balls of Fury" although that is completely different from with as viewed as a comedy) you get to see that this isn't so easy and how much sweat they produce frolicking from side to side.

The Sucketh:

-Like in real life, there's always someone better than you, no matter how hard you try and how they don't and that just sucks...
-It is a fairly slow film..so for those of you only watching for the actual ping pong and couldn't care less about the character development, fast forward to the end.

Enchanted (2007)

A typical disney story where boy meet girl, they can't be together, somehow good defeats evil and they all live happily ever after.

Rating: 6.6/10

The Good:

-It had it's good funny bits, I especially liked how it poked fun at the ideas shown in the cartoons that are impossible in the real world: having the animal's help out with chores, in this case rats, pigeons and cockroaches, singing and strangers can sing along to the songs that you make up as you go, etc, etc.
-Ok the cute chipmunk = automatic pass points
-It has good morals and even though everyone ends up living happily ever after and not everyone really does in real life, it gives the young ones hopes for their dreams.

The Sucketh:

-I was fairly disappointed when I found out that the makers got lazy after a few minutes and decided to turn this film into a live after a few minutes of animation, the trailer got my hopes up thinking old school Disney has returned!...no...it didn't.
-All of her other dresses throughout the movie looked better than the one she wore to the ball at the end. Even her hair..I don't see what was so special...it was just there and there was just nothing out of the ordinary.
-Come on Disney, can't you think up of at least one new thing? this whole film was bits of all other old good animated films re-enacted. At least change the characters or clothes up a bit. The step-mom was an exact match to the queen from "Snow White", why not make a step-dad with a white suit?...but now I wonder..since they have used up all of their ideas...and re-used them...what's next?...more remakes?

Green Chair (2004)

A lady has an affair with this kid who is underage so eveyone is against them.

Rating: 8.5/10

The Good:

-Ok let's just skip to the important stuff...Shin Ji Ho is HAWT.

-umm...yea....I think this calls for a picture ^^

...alright alright I admit it, if it wasn't for him and me seeing him nakiee, this film would probably be a 3/10...but what can i say sex sells, my friends and we all know it...that's the sad truth tsk.

The Sucketh:

-I don't really remember the plot, other that the random bed scenes...oh wait that was the plot.

- I still don't get why it's called "Green Chair"..there wasn't anything green in this whole film.

Chocolate (2008)

Martial arts movie where the girl kicks everyone's ass to help save her mother.

Rating: 8/10

The Good:

-Maybe I'm being bias by giving it such a high rating because of it being a martial arts film, but one can never have too much of martial arts films!..although I have no idea why it's called "Chocolate"...she did eat some m&m's in some scenes...
-There can never be too much films about a female heroine who kicks ass AND is autistic, now how often do you see that?
-The fighting sequences were the kind that make you yell "Hwaapow!" when the actors listen to you by telling them to smash someone in the face with their foot yeeee!!
- This film finally stars a female lead, and she kicks ass. Enough said.
- The villain has long perfectly groomed hair.

The Sucketh:

-Well it is fairly predictable..but what movie isn't?
-What is up with the ugly transvestites as villains?... and I still don't understand what they were after...
-One of the fight scenes was in some meat room, so some viewers might find this disturbing seeing the meat chunks hanging around them while they flip around the pig heads...personally I found it more disturbing when one of the bad guys missed a kick and his foot got stuck on a hook *shudders*.
-it's a tad predictable, and perhaps unrealistic, but hey, it's an action movie, we're watching it for the fight scenes.

Moi César, 10 ans 1/2, 1m39 (2003)

A rather cute film that both kids and adults alike can enjoy about three friends going to find one's father in a different country.

Rating: 8.3/10

The Good:

-This film has a lot of laughs as one can relate if not to the misadventures, to what the main boy (Cesar) thinks to himself [as this film is from a child's point of view] about ordinary things like school, parents, jelously and crushes. Just the way it was filmed as well, how the camera shots may be from the bottom looking up at the old people who smile and he grins and bears it haha.

-I find all french movies to be slightly bizarre..and yes this one included but that adds onto the charm of this film.

-As seen in the title, the thoughts of the main kid, how he refers to eveything in the upmost detail that may not be important, but once again is the kind of stuff that might make you smile.

The Sucketh:

-Fairly unrealistic in the context, esspecially to the fact that these kids managed to get away to the UK without anyone noticing.

-If you didn't like Amelie, then you might not like this.

Otakus in Love (2004)

Rating: 8/10

The Good:

-This film is based on a manga, and the evidence is there: eccentric young otakus falling in love. What more could you want? There's a point in the movie where the main male lead (Ryuhei Matsuda) rolls himself into a ball and rolls down a hill, I mean how amazing is that?
-Many bright colours, always good in my book, and of course extravagant characters and even a manga cult (complete with their own chant and everything) seriously though, this film is amazing, artistically especially, but the actors are great as well.

The Sucketh:

-Ok I admit, to some this film may seem a bit "weird" and eccentric. The story is fairly fast paced as well, so perhaps not the best pick if you've just come home from a long day at work/school and just want to relax.

My tastes can be pretty strange sometimes, but for whatever reason I really liked this movie, again, if you don't mind slightly bizarre, eccentric characters, definately worth the watch.

Chungking Express (1994)

A film with several short stories happening to people that are somehow connected.

Rating: 9/10
Rating: 5/10

The Good:

-Ok maybe I'm being a bit bias because Wong Kar Wai is one of my favourite directors, but I absolutely love love love the camerawork in this one. The art photography is also beautiful, if anything just watch it for that.
-Good acting, plus Takeshi Kaneshiro is hot, and the story line is fresh and interesting.
-I agree with the comment above.

The Sucketh:

-I can't think of anything really, even the "slower" parts with mainly music playing seemed perfectly in tune with the rest of the movie, but it's the only thing that might throw some people off.
-If you're the kind of person that needs a climax to the plot, I wouldn't recommend this movie, if anything its more like a peek into the lives of the characters, no huge drama, lovers spats, or anything of the sort, neither does it end with everyone holding hands and walking off into the sunset (which is all good mind you) just not that kind of movie.
-Ok unlike my pal Dada here I didn't see what the whole hoopla was about. Much like stated above I'm one of those people that needs a film to END as in there is a clear happy or sad ending. There ARE good movies that don't have those kinds of endings and some of them I love and are they slow and eveything, but I feel that at least I learned something from it by the end, but this...well this was one of this films that just end on a blah note in my opinion. If a movie is boring all thoughout, I think it should at least have a good ending to balance it out. The whole time I was waiting for it to get better and it didn't. It seems like nothing got resolved and it's so "real" that I don't see any point in watching this if we are already living lives like this.

Waaa ok I loved this movie, as you can probably tell, it's amazing, watch it.
Waaa ok I hated this movie, as you can probably tell it's terrible, watch it, but don't say I didn't warn you.

Clockstoppers (2002)

I just had to throw this one in there. This film had so much potential, the commercials were awesome, the concept was there and I even went to watch it in theatres. Let's just skip to the rating for now.

Rating: 2/10
Rating: 1/10
Average: 1.5/10

The Good:

-They could stop time, that's pretty cool...and ooh look at the bright colours.
-The girl doesn't look bad...it's always nice to see good looking actors as backup for a lame movie. -I saw this one in theatres (don't laugh) with Origa about a billion years ago... good tiiimes... wow where do I even begin? Actually yeah, lets just stop right there. I'm not going to be too judgemental on this film seeing as I pretty much forgot everything about it, umm there's something to do with time, so if you're into time, go see it.

The Sucketh:

-I have never seen those actors before...I guess that's why. Maybe now they are in more movies, but back then...nope don't recall.
-Maybe my theatre experience was bad but either way the guy in front of me who told me to shut up (even though I wasn't talking) during commercials added to the sucky factor.
-What was the plot again? capturing some bad guy?...I don't remember, I do remember however that whatever they have done could have been done without the time freezing power or they would have done so much faster if they used the power wisely.
-Again, I don't remember what this movie was about, but the feeling that I've just thrown away 12 bucks and wasted an hour (or two) still lingers. Think what you will.

If I had the power to stop time, I know what I would do, I would freeze everyone up in that theatre and then get my money back.

The Best Romance (2007)

Typical Korean Romantic Comedy where someone finds their significant other by accidentally running into them and getting hurt or drunk.

Rating: 3/10 (we both agreed!)

The Good:

- How can getting stabbed by a food not be funny?...sorry maybe it's just me heh
- We get to see a cop's weakness...usually in Hollywood they're not afraid of anything.
- There were some interesting chase scenes in there as well... right? *scratches head*.

The Sucketh:

-Gawd that woman's voice killed my ears, her annoyingness is partly why the rating of this film is so low.
-Uh where was the plot?...or right...they try to get the bad guy...and of course try to fit in some party time.
-What great romance?...even without the "best" If i remember correctly she threw a knife at him, stabbed him and annoyed him.
-Maybe I was expecting too much?...either way there is way more better flicks out there where you can expect too much and get what you came for.
-My ears, they bleed. That woman's voice was just so annoying, high pitched, whiny... ok I'm sorry, but it was pretty hard on the ears. I don't actually mind her so much in variety shows and she was in a drama where her voice/character wasn't so bad. Maybe its just this movie, either way wow, cotton ear plugs are invaluable.
-로맨스 indeed. Nothing romantic about this movie whatsoever, unless being stabbed by a shishkabab (or whatever that was) is your idea of a love bite.

Our Finest Hour (2007)

Otherwise known as "Forever the Moment".
Typical sports film where everyone wants to win and has to overcome personal problems to be a "part of the team".

Rating: 6.2/10

The Good:

-Finally a sport that everyone forgets about after high school, not baseball, not basketball and not football, it's handball! some of you are probably still like "whaaa? O_o" then google it and find out.
-A sport with women...since 90% of the films out there are about the guys teams.
-No they don't win...because that's not important, it's the struggle that is, otherwise the movie would be predictable and therefore boring.

The Sucketh:

-For a sports movie they sure focused too much on the individual lives and did not show much of their practises...they lost against a high school team and yet they somehow managed to get to the Olympics?
-If someone working at a restaurant spilled rice on me I'd get pretty pissed...now who doesn't when wearing a suit and the rice is thrown at them?
-Since when do bad guys turn good? I mean come on, that only works in Hayao Miyazaki films, but one convo doesn't change a person.

Intro

So I was bored and decided I should make a blog...yes it's fairly outdated and nobody seems to be doing it anymore...but I never have done so before so why not? and since I don't have such an adventurous life at the moment I decided to review the movies that come my way in this form. Why do it here when I could just go join Rottentomatoes? Well because I can and because I get to put up whatever images I like and choose the length of my so called reviews. and most of the time they can be biased or just general rambling haha. Now for whoever is actually reading this I shall tag each film by country and/or language, as one can never be too sure of the genre. Why the title "That Film Sucked"? well first of all the other names were taken and second of all, it's very hard to find a film that is worthy of 10/10. So if you see any good ratings here then it must be something good.

Mind you this is just for fun so don't be offended by any bad ratings, (or any good ones) if you disagree, then feel free to start your own blog (not saying you can't comment, but please don't overtake mine with mindless "you sucks" and "go to hells", etc, etc). If everyone liked the same stuff the world would be a boring place.

Well said Origa, now there's pretty much nothing left for me to expand on, just the way I like it. Just to let you know, there will be two separate reviews posted on several movies (if we both saw them and felt inclined to review) in which case my (Dada's) review will be in GREEN and Origa's in PURPLE to avoid confusion.
